
Getting Your Textiles Right with the 120W/cm Mercury UV Lamp
When you’re running printed fabrics at high speeds, you can’t afford to wait around for ink to dry. That’s why we built our 120W/cm mercury UV lamp. It isn’t just a lightbulb—it’s a concentrated blast of energy that forces those inks and coatings to lock in the second they hit the lamp. The heat is the real story here. Putting 120W into every single centimeter means a ton of power in a very small space. If you’ve got a 1-meter array, you’re dealing with 120kW. It’s intense. That’s exactly what you want because it pushes the UV radiation deep into the fabric fibers, making sure the ink stays where it belongs. But here’s the catch: it gets hot. Really hot. If your exhaust fans are sluggish or your water-cooling isn’t up to the task, you’re asking for trouble. You’ll either burn through your lamps way too fast or, worse, end up warping your fabric. Keep it cool, and you’re golden. What’s happening inside the tube? We use mercury vapor to create a heavy hit of UV-C and UV-B radiation. Once that arc strikes, the vapor gets excited and shoots out the short-wavelength light needed to snap the chemical bonds in your UV-curable inks. To make this work, we use heavy-wall quartz glass. We chose it because it lets the UV rays fly through without stopping them, but it’s tough enough that the tube won’t sag or droop when it reaches operating temperature. Making it work on your line Think of these lamps as your final safety net. They stop the ink from migrating and keep those sharp, intricate prints from smudging. Because we’ve dialed the output to 120W/cm, you can crank up your conveyor speed and still get a deep, solid cure. Just do me a favor—keep your reflectors polished. If those mirrors get oxidized or dirty, your output drops, and you’ll end up with fabric that feels tacky to the touch. Nobody wants that.
